Lone Tree Farm no more! We’ve just planted our first trees- four apple trees! These are a type of apple trees that are a combination and have three different types grafted together: Fuji, Yellow Delicious and Gala. These cost a little more than a single fruit tree but we wanted the most bang for our buck from the get go. Our trees were purchased from the local co-op and came from a middle Tennessee Farm called Freedom Tree Farm
The term lone tree was from the single pecan tree up on the hill. The term gives a vision of a lonely patch of land with a single visible representation of life. However, we also we casting a vision for the future and could look back and hopefully see the fruit of the earth and the efforts of our labor above and beyond the single tree!
The 60 by 200 foot vegetable garden has been tilled and partly planted. The tilling was done with our John Deere tractor and tiller but the row work was all done by hand with our wheel hoe cultivation system. We got the Wheel Hoss brand Hoss Deal Package which included a seeder attachment, weeding oscillator hoes, plow set and the double wheel hoe. See the wheel hoe in action!
My doctor wanted me to get more exercise, but I’m not sure this is what he had in mind. I should also mention that I was diagnosed with a bad case of frozen shoulder and am back to 85% full use of my right shoulder. There was just too much work to do for me to wait to get better and the exercise and work seems to he helping.
